Prior to entering our program, ‘Sarah’ and her 3 young daughters were living in a shelter, as they were fleeing domestic violence. Sarah was referred and approved to enroll in West CAP’s Rapid Rehousing program. Shortly after enrolling in the program, her case manager helped her find and move into a 2-bedroom rental unit. The program allows Sarah to hold the lease in her name, and she pays 30% of her income to her rent. The program assistance covers the rest of the rent to ensure it is affordable related to her current income and household size.
When Sarah and her girls originally moved in, they had no furniture and slept on garbage bags for the first few nights. Luckily, they got in touch with Sleep in Heavenly Peace. Their volunteers build bunk beds for the girls and got furniture and fully furnished her unit. Throughout our program, Sarah has gotten herself back into school pursuing a degree in Human Services and her children have been flourishing in school. They are all partaking in tournaments and are playing travel softball and basketball. Sarah officially received the news that she was coming off the waitlist and is eligible for a Section 8 Housing Choice Voucher. She was approved for a brand-new unit through Impact 7 and will be moving into her 3-bedroom unit on May 30th and successfully exiting from the Rapid Rehousing program.
